Online Shopping

General

  • Send it to Japan This seems to be a pretty comprehensive list of stores that will ship to Japan. They have everything on there - clothes, shoes, Health and Beauty... There's a lot to plough through though so you might want to check out some of the links below that have been recommended by Toyama JETs.

Movies, Books, CDs and Computers

  • Amazon.co.jp A super cheap way to buy books, videos, and CDs from your home country. There is a link for shopping in English (well...mostly). Also, you can buy books from your home country for cheaper than at home, and they'll pay for the cross-ocean shipping. Buy 1500 yen worth of products in one order, and shipping to your home is free too.
  • HMV Japan! You can buy online with HMV in English - often good deals on import CDs and decent shipping too.
  • LaCie Specialize in hard drives/storage and other stuff for your computer. Quite fancy, with prices to match.

Food and house stuff

  • Ambika Japan Needs registration to even see the products, but holds a good range of Indian food and also a small frozen section including samosa and spring rolls.
  • Balticrom Halal Foods Online. Also has clothes, CDs and Books.
  • British Corner Shop Another British shop with loads of your favourites. Again, shipping is expensive. I emailed to ask and was told that I could ship 30kg for "just £112.63". Hmmmm.
  • Expat Essentials British orientated shop with loads of your favourites from back home. Shipping is a bit pricey, but a lot faster than FBC.
  • Expat Express American-biased online grocery shopping. Delivery is fast and shipping seems reasonable.
  • Foreign Buyer's Club Purchase foods from your home country and have them shipped to your door. Buy from the main store and it will take over a month, or buy from the Deli (stuff they hold in Japan) and it will be with you in a few days.
  • Indojin Indian food online. Lots of spices that you might not be able to find in your local supermarket.
  • Lush Japan If you like your toiletries fresh then you'll like Lush. They have a few shops across Japan but none near us, however...if you can manage in Japanese you can buy online :)
  • Meidi-ya online shopping A reduced selection of the foreign food chain Meidi-ya's selection is available to buy online (in Japanese)
  • Tengu Natural Foods Tengu sell veggie/organic food and eco-friendly household products. Great for veggies struggling to find nice food!
  • The Flying Pig Costco in Japan! Food and lots of other stuff.
  • The Meat Guy Sorry veggies, nothing for you here! "Providing meat to all Japan".
  • Waine.com Imported wines, pasta and olive oil available to buy online from this Kanagawa-based company.
  • Warabe Mura Another veggie/wholefoods kinda place that do mailorder in English

Medicines

The following links ship medicines around the world. They do not require prescriptions. Please be aware that buying from these companies is at your own risk, and you must be completely clear on what is and isn't allowed to be shipped to Japan. Pay attention to customs limits too. Please read the FAQs on the websites, and check with them if you are unsure about the legality of certain products in Japan, please check with the companies.

Clothes and shoes

  • American Apparel Basic tees and undies from the Japanese version of the American company (mostly in Japanese but pretty easy to navigate)
  • http://www.asos.com/As Seen On Screen Started out doing dodgy knock-offs of clothes seen on famous people but have now made quite a good name for themselves. NB don't ship bulky items to Japan.
  • Bigsize If you're fed up with not being able to buy larger clothes, this site has a selection of bigger stuff (in Japanese).
  • Bloomsize Bigsize for girls! (Also in Japanese)
  • Faith Shoes Highstreet British shoe retailer.
