How are we paid? Are we paid retroactively?

Most people in Toyama are paid on the 15th of the month (some people who work at Junior Highs/Elementary/Private High Schools will be paid on different days. Please check this out with your supervisor). You will almost always have your salary paid directly into your bank account by your CO.

On your first payday after you arrive in Japan, you may be paid retroactively, i.e. if you are paid on August 15th, that money is for the time you have worked so far. n.b. some COs don't pay their new JETs in August so you may have to hold out until September for an extra fat paycheck... check with your supervisor to make sure.

On subsequent paydays you are paid for the whole of that month, i.e. if you are paid on March 15th, that is money for the days that you have worked and will work during March.

On your last payday (July), group A will generally get a smaller amount and group B higher because of the dates when you arrived in Japan. It's roughly a week less or more than your usual monthly salary. Please speak to your office/school for details - there will always be slight differences from person to person so they are the ones who can give you the exact answer.
