I have some daikyuu for working at the weekend. Can I take this whenever I like?
Most schools have a policy that you must take daikyuu (time in lieu) within 4 weeks of the day that you did the extra work. If it is a day that the whole school has been in for, i.e. exams on a Saturday, you will usually find that the school will be closed for a day in the week proceeding or following it. This is your day in lieu, and you cannot change it.
If you have done extra work, for example a business trip over the weekend such as a speech contest, or an English camp, then you are usually permitted to take the daikyuu whenever you like in the next 4 weeks, providing that the day in question is not something really important like the graduation ceremony.
Please note however that these are just general guidelines. Your school may have a different period in which you can take the daikyuu, such as 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after. You may also be unfortunate enough to have a school that doesn't like to give daikyuu at all. You need to speak to your supervisor as soon as possible after you find out you are required to work at the weekend and get them to explain the situation at your school to you.
