Going home soon after arrival
The MOMENT you start feeling overwhelmed, CALL YOUR REGIONAL REP. The first month was very difficult for ALL of us. Your regional rep is here to help you, and to listen during what is undoubtedly a very big life change for you.
If you talk to your rep and still feel like it's best for you to leave, call the PA. We will discuss your situation at length and I will help you work out what is best for you. I want to emphasize that my goal in speaking to you is not to convince you to stay; I will simply act as a sounding board to help you make the best decision.
If you decide to leave we will make appropriate arrangements to get you home safe and sound, as soon as possible. Please understand, this process will take about a week, sometimes up to two weeks, and be prepared to take care of the costs associated with breaking contract and going home early. You will be responsible for paying for your flight to Japan, your stay at the Keio Plaza hotel during Tokyo Orientation, your flight to Toyama and your own flight home; insurance, pension and tax expenses for August; and any other costs associated with the process of closing up shop here. The total runs around 300,000 to 400,000 yen.
This process is emotionally draining so if you find yourself in this situation, please do what you have to to take care of yourself and realize that despite the fact that you are breaking contact, you can always turn to the JET PA or the CLAIR hotline for emotional support.
