Who to contact…

Since you arrived in Japan (and probably before, too) you will no doubt have received a whole forest of paper, with the intention of the contents being able to answer all your random questions. So, what happens if you can’t find the answer amongst it all? Don’t fret – there are a number of people you can talk to:

For most problems, you can talk to your supervisor or a JTE (Japanese Teacher of English) at your school/office. They are the people who are most likely to know the answers to questions particular to Japanese life.

You can also talk to a Prefectural Advisor (PA). There are three PAs in Toyama prefecture: Mr. Yasuhara (International Affairs & Japan Sea Region Policy Division), Mr. Fukuzawa (General Education Centre) and Laura Thimling (ALT PA). You can contact them at any time, with problems and questions of any nature. Please remember that any conversations you have with them will be kept strictly confidential. Check the meishi (business card) you were given at orientation for our contact info.

If you don’t wish to talk to a PA about your problem/question, you can call CLAIR directly on the JET Line (03 3591-5489), and talk to a CLAIR Programme Coordinator.

Each region in Toyama prefecture also has a Regional Representative (RR), who you can ask for help. These people are not necessarily trained in counselling as PAs are, but they can help with some questions that may come up, and may be able to help you with questions about your area of the prefecture too.

The AJET Peer Support Group is another place you can go to for counselling. This is staffed by trained counsellors (JETs) from 8pm to 8am every night. The toll-free number is 0120 43-7725.
