Niigata-ken

There’s also fun skiing and boarding to be found just over the border in southern Niigata-ken. The snow conditions can vary, but what’s great about Toyama is that it’s easy to try new places every weekend.

Arai Mountain and Spa

This place is pretty big and has much more of a resort feel. Worth noting – the season lasts into May! It's a bit more costly, but there’s usually some good powder and the onsen at the bottom is perfect for relaxing those muscles after a long day. Take Hokuriku Expwy to Joetsu Interchange, get on Joetsu Expwy to exits Takada or Nakago and follow Rt. 18 and signs for Arai.

Seaside Valley (シーサイド バレー)

It’s on the smaller side, but doesn't seem to get too crowded.

Fun runs, but not much out-of-bounds to explore. Nice because it’s so close...right off the Hokuriku Itoigawa Exit and on the way to Nagano - look for signs about 6 km after the expwy.
