Tonami Bars
Big Blue Diner
This is an interesting bar near Tonami station. You can`t miss the big blue sign. It claims to be an “American” bar. At first you might find the décor and idea a bit too much, but it will grow on you and soon you will be thanking master Kenji, for this is definitely one of the greatest places to spend a Saturday night in Tonami. Not only is the staff cool, the clientele hip, the drinks oishii-yo, but even the food is great! Offers hamburger-like sets, soft tacos, fried chicken and rice dishes (‘power foods’ as they’re called), and some good salads, pizza, onion rings, and banana splits. Order a certain shot from the bar and you’ll get to hear ‘Wild thing’!
Escargot
One of the more unusual places in Tonami, but always a good time. It is down the street from Osama Kitchen. Owned by an interesting woman with a shaved head, this café bar has hand painted walls, couches with smooshy pillows, a massive candle in the corner, lava lamps, fried spaghetti noodles in champagne glasses, and a sometimes a little too much Enya playing. But the best part is it's a “wine” bar! Great for parties, as it is usually fairly empty. The Master doesn’t always open the shop on a regular basis, but if you talk to her ahead of time, you can have a sweet get-together with nomi-hodai wine!
Osama Kitchen
Off of the Tonami old main street. On the same street as Sanko grocery store, but in the other direction. Look for a light wood façade (ask someone for directions...it’s hard to explain). This place is pretty cool and usually pretty chill. The bartenders are usually nice, and you can do nomi-hodai if you have enough people. I have heard they have some good Italian-like food. (Osama means “King” in Japanese).
Vox
Very small bar on the second floor of a building that is right by the railroad tracks close to the covered area on the main old street of Tonami. It’s cute and hip, and it projects MTV on large screen behind bar. Again – very small.
