Morakopf
1-3-2-1F Nakanoshin
Hours: 6 to 9 pm
Tel: 422-5856
Caveau Morakopf will delight you with its decor, its food, and its friendly staff. It's a place to be enjoyed and savored but don't go there with a sumo appetite or a skinny wallet. Portions are small and the food is expensive. Chilled pumpkin soup costs around 700yen, the couscous dish is 1800yen and a plate of French cheeses will run you 1800yen. The desserts look fantastic - very un-Japanized French pastries and tarts. The atmosphere is also nice, simple, quiet, lots of natural materials and soothing lighting. So, if you're treating someone special (including yourself) and you don't mind spending 4,000 to 5,000 per person, this is highly recommended.
Getting There: Take the streetcar to the Kamihonmachi stop (first stop past the giant Coke sign in Minami-Toyama direction). Caveau Marakopf is on your left, about a block up the street.

This large, elegant restaurant serves really delicious French food and it is very reasonable. Ordering a course is recommended - you get a great sampling of soup, appetizer, salad, main course, dessert, coffee/tea and all you can eat warm bread delivered to your table in a huge basket. Whilst the food may not be totally authentic, (it has a Japanese flair) it is really very good.
Other drawing points are the extensive wine list, an in-house bakery where you can pick up bread for breakfast on your way out, and occasional live piano music.
Getting There: Take the tram to the Nishinakano stop and continue down the tram street. Turn right into Tateyama-dori, and it’s on your left. Alternatively, ride any "thirty- something" bus from Toyama station and get off at the art museum, turn left onto Tateyama-dori, and it’s on your right.
