Daishogun
Sakura-machi 2-4-21
Tel: 076-433-2983
Hours: 11:30~14:00, 17:00~24:00
The vast majority of yakiniku places use gas now, but this place uses red hot coals stacked into a sunken grill unit which you sit around. The food is really good, typical delicious yakiniku fare with everything from beef to chicken to vegetables available for grilling. The steaks run from 1300 to 2000 yen. There are three locations in Toyama city, one of which is just up behind the CIC building.
Getting There: From the station, keep walking straight to the Nisseki station on your right. After the intersection, take the little side street that veers off to the right (not the sharp right). You'll see it on the left about 30 meters down.
Hangan
Minato Irifune 3-14
Tel: (076) 433-7688
Hours: 11:00~14:00, 17:00~23:00 (last order 22:00)
This restaurant is a favorite of ALTs looking for the kind of spice often found in Mexican and Korean foods, so difficult to find in Japan. Yakiniku is served, as is kimchee, big potato pancake-type things, and lots of beer (sorry, no Korean brands). For two people with a couple of drinks expect to pay around 5000 yen. It might be helpful to bring someone who knows about Korean food.
Getting There: From the North exit of Toyama Station walk toward Aubade Hall (the huge, modern white building) and keep walking through the traffic signal, past the KNB building, and over the bridge. Hangan is in the small building on the left hand side.
