Rasha (ラーシャ)
Nishi-cho 8-2, Brickhouse 2F
Tel: 425-3376
Hours: 17:00~23:00
When your trip to Thailand is still two months away but you can't deny your craving for TomYam Goong any longer, head over to Rasha for some great food. The restaurant is small and each table is in a separate alcove created by floor to ceiling sheer curtains. No fluorescent lighting here; it’s a very soothing, relaxing atmosphere. For first timers I recommend a "course" which will give you a great sampling of what Rasha has to offer. Course A is 3,000 yen for 7 dishes; course B is 4,000 yen for 9 dishes. The courses are definitely a good deal while the individual entrees are a bit steeper. The food is authentic and delicious, due to the fact that the chef trained in the outdoor stalls and markets of Bangkok.
Getting There: Take the street car to Nishi-cho and turn down Heiwa dori so that the Daiwa department store is on your left. Take your third left (three small streets/alleys), then left again at the next street. Rasha is on the second floor of the red brick building on your immediate right-the sign is in katakana.
Sawasdee Café
Basement of 21 building
Hours: 10:00 – 1:00 (Last seating at midnight)
A Thai restaurant in the basement of the 21 building. The menu is available in English, but recently the prices have increased while the portions have decreased. Both the service and the food are excellent though. The menu is really varied and has some great stuff on it. You’ll have to pay at your table and they won’t split the bill. There`s also a 200 yen seating charge and a dress code – no shorts/sweat pants.
Getting There: From Toyama Station south exit walk straight to the CIC building. Walk around it until you see a small side street lined with bars and drunk Japanese people. The 21 building is 50m ahead.
