Uozu Bars

Just a bit of trivia: Uozu has the highest percentage of izakayas and snack bars per capita in all of Japan. Something to be proud of, I think.

135s

Probably the most frequented bar by foreigners, namely us JETs. Really close to the JR Uozu station. From the station turn right at the first set of lights. The bar will be on your right hand side. You will see the sign above the doorway to the stairs that lead to the bar. Only full on weekends, so if you fancy a quiet pint any other time, head here. Friendly staff and kick ass sword pirate game available for drunken gaijin. The owner is very welcoming to foreigners and is used to a large foreigner crowd too. Most of the time, the master will give you snacks such as fries or popcorn or potato chips. Really good drinks also! There’s a delicious Oreo shake that they make with or without alcohol. A definite must if you’re in Uozu!

Afloman

A cosy and friendly bar, the staff are never too busy for a chat. Also has a small menu. There is a cover charge but different people have said different prices so not too sure how much it is. To get there go past Banana’s (see Uozu bars section) until the next crossroad. Turn right here and Aflo`s is about halfway down on your left on the 2nd floor.

Anana no Onegaeshi

Just call it "Banana's". 3 minute walk from JR Uozu Station. Turn right at first set of lights (the station lights) then turn left on the first street. You will see the sign with the banana picture and バナナ on it. Located on the second floor. It’s also the building next to Peyote’s. Recommended bar for two people or for large groups who like their alcohol! It has a great full bar to sit at, lots of tables and couches, and most importantly, a stage upon which you can belt out your karaoke in the spotlight. The staff is very friendly and welcome foreigners. Warning: there is a seating charge and I believe that they also charge per song- so your bill could add up. This is also the place for the Halloween party which many JETs and foreigners alike get their costume and drink on!

Aqua Blue

A nice atmospheric bar where you can get food and drinks at average prices and chat with the young crowd. On the same street as Sun Plaza, one block towards the station, 2F.

Cote D’Azur

Located on Route 135. About a 20 minute walk. From JR Uozu station walk straight turn right on the street where Apple Hill is. This is Route 135. Go straight, Cote d’Azur is on your left hand side and the sign is in English. Very clean, nice place to go with friends and they have a bigger selection of English songs. You will have to make a membership card before you can use the karaoke rooms. They give coupons out and if you have any, tell them BEFORE going inside that you have them, or else they’ll make you save them for next time.

Peyote's

Literally a drunken stagger from 135s. From 135s, look straight ahead and you should see the sign for Peyote’s. A Mexican restaurant and bar with great atmosphere and staff. Opens around 6:00pm and stays open until around 2:00am or so. Highly recommended! Walk out of the station into the red light district (which will be a right at the first set of lights) take your first left and it`s the first white building on your left. On the 2nd floor. The food is quite good! But be prepared to wait an hour if you are in a big group. There is only one chef and one little kitchen!

Sound City

A karaoke bar located in the building complex beside Sun Plaza, about a 5ish minute walk. From JR Uozu Station go right at the second set of lights. It is written in English so you can’t miss it. Also has a great list of English songs (even "Green Day"!). It’s recommended for its proximity to the Uozu bar area and the station. However, if you are trying to bring in outside drinks, be careful, these guys tend to walk around the corridors and do little inconspicuous peeps under the frosted glass of the doors.

Soul Power

Close to JR Uozu station. Turn right at the second set of lights from the station and the place is on your left. The owner is really into Motown, soul, and R&B. They usually play good music and sometimes have live shows featuring local bands. Tends to be pricey (2000 yen cover w/some drinks). It’s also not too big a place but the younger crowd seems to like hanging out there.
