Alpen Sports and Taiyo Sports
Sport shops both located on route 135. You can definitely walk it, but if you want to buy skiis etc. a car is probably better! From the station go to route 135. (remember Apple Hill) Turn right to go to Taiyo Sports and left to go to Alpen Sports. They both have good sales a few times a year so keep your eyes open.
Apple Hill
Is on route 135 straight up from the station. Apple Hill has the best supermarket in the region which is fairly well stocked with foreign foods including peanut butter,Thai curries and soups. Also, it is usually less expensive than Sun Plaza. Apple Hill also has a gift and house wares shop (Ad Hoc), a McDonalds, J-Mart (like K-Mart or Walmart), a clothing shop or two, liquor store, dry cleaners and various eateries. The restaurant in the front is good and popular with ALTs. It also has an arcade/game centre on the second floor above the restaurant where you can do purikura!! Very popular with the students in this area! There is also 24 hour pool on the same floor as the game centre.
Joshin and Yamada Denki
Both electronic stores. Joshin is farther out, so you would need a car. It is close to the Apita mall, on route 8 headed to Namerikawa/Toyama. Yamada Denki is a good 25 minute walk from the station and is usually cheaper. It also carries sporting goods and a variety of other things too. Worth checking in on once in a while for their sales. It is located on route 135 (the same road Apple Hill is on) heading east toward Kurobe.
Sun Plaza
One block up from the station and straight right (turn right after the second lights from the station). SunPlaza has a large supermarket (a little pricey though), drycleaners, film shop, stationary store, glasses shop and drug store on the first floor. It also has a good food court (see fast food section) The second floor has clothes for men and women, but mainly for women and it is usually on the expensive side. Sometimes they have sales that aren’t bad. The third floor has house wares, a 100 yen shop that has a good variety of things, a bookshop (some English books, magazines and Japanese study books), and baby clothes. It also has lower end purikura machines and some games.
