Form 2350 Instructions
Fill in your name, address, and social security number on the top. Use the same address you plan on using for your tax return to avoid confusion. If you would like your refund send to your U.S. address, I recommend using your U.S. address at the top.
- Number 1: Take the day you arrived on the JET program. Add about a month (and a year) to that date and write it in the first blank. For example, if you arrived July 28, 2003. Write August 28, 2004. Leave the second blank empty.
- Number 2: No
- Number 3: No
- Number 4a: The day you arrived on the plane. For example, July 28, 2003
- Number 4b: The period begins the day after you arrived on the plane. The period ends one year after you arrived on the plane. For example, begins July 29, 2003, ends July 28, 2004
- Number 4c: Your address in Japan.
- Number 4d: The day you expect to leave. (okay to change later) For example, July 28, 2004
- Number 5: Once you complete your tax return, if you determine you owe money, please write that amount here and include payment with this form.
- Number 6: Leave blank
- Number 7: Leave blank
- Sign and date the paper
- Look at the return label at the bottom. Go ahead and fill that in with your name, social security number, and Japanese address. They will mail this back to you with the results of your request for an extension.
- You're finished! Now you just have to mail it in.
But before you mail it in, you must determine if you owe money or not. The way to do this is to complete all the later forms. Basically, you have to compute your taxes now, and then you'll know if you owe money or not. So keep going in the process and you'll figure out when to send this form in later. However, you will never mail in your tax forms besides the extension until August.
If you owe money:
- Send it in by April 15 (with a check).
If you don't owe money: (most people)
- Send it in by June 15 (early is good, too).
Send it to:
- Internal Revenue Service Center
Philadelphia, PA 19255-0002
U.S.A.
